Remembrance Sunday 2020

2020 has been a difficult year for many. Though we are not able to come together as in previous years to commemorate the service and sacrifice of our armed services, we still remember.

The Last Post, played by Chloe Brown. MacTaggart Scott Loanhead Brass Band.

Lest We Forget.

The band are getting back together!

For the first time since March, the band are now allowed to start playing together again. It will not be the same as before as we will be have to put in a lot of new measures to continue to keep our players and communities safe.

The band committee are working hard to get this organised, and will release more information once it is available.

Our response to the Coronavirus pandemic

The MacTaggart Scott Loanhead Brass Band takes the health and wellbeing of it’s players as a priority. As such, we have decided to suspend all band rehearsals and engagements until further notice due to the uncertainty over coronavirus.

We currently don’t know how long such a suspension might last, and so upcoming engagements will be under review on a reguloar basis. We will provide updates as decisions are made about individual engagements and new information is released by the relevant authorities.

We look forward to being back together in the bandhall soon.

The Scottish Championships 2020

Our recent result at the 2020 Scottish Championships was disappointing for many of our players. However the committee would like to put forward our thanks to all players for the dedication they have shown in preparing for this competition, and to our Musical Director – George Cameron – for bringing the piece to life.

We do not believe our 9th place finish was in keeping with our performance on the day. However the adjudicators felt differently, and we respect this decision.

The band continues to develop a rich sound, and we look forward to future engagements and competitions to show that this result does not define us as a band.

Drawn 17th (of 20) the band played the following pieces:

  • March: Imperial March, John Williams (arr Sandy Smith)
  • Hymn: Saint Clemant (arr Darrol Barry)
  • Test Piece: Vizcaya (arr Gilbert Vinter)

Although the result for the Test Piece was disappointing (score of 164, putting the band in 19th), results from the March (17th with 69 points) and Hymn (16th with 68 points) where much more positive and showed the work put into this display.

You can listen to the recording of the Tets Piece below.

The band will now work towards competing at the Borders Entertainment competition in early November.
